approval request
Our model is currently under construction, we have orientated plans, elevations and sections, and, modelled the basic structure of the ground level. Also we are pending approval. We hadnt anticipated the diffuculty in attaining plans for the design, due to its rather recent construction. In the end we had to pay and subscibe to Architecture Week for a year to get our hands on some working drawing, these are the plans they gave us after subscribing.

So it begins

We have now obtained some pretty decent plans and sections from the interloan request from the library of our building, the Porsche Museum. This section shows how we are splitting up the work:
We have started modelling it in Revit and so far and have made some decent progress. We are using the massing tool to to form the shapes such as the sloping walls. As discussed with the Donn we have changed our first building choice from the royoal ontario to this, the Porsche Museum once we got workable plans and sections (which we now have).

We are now proposing to model the luyeyuan Stone Sculpture museum. Unlike the
our first option, the Bigelow chapel, the
luyeyuan museum has a number of different spaces. This will provide us with more options when it comes to choosing render views.

Peabody Essex Museum
The building was have chosen to model is the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, USA by Moshe Safdie.
With discussing between the group (Anthony, Jason, Scott) we have decided to divide it up as show in the image. Myself (yellow) and Scott (red) are doing a part of the atrium each with some of the building while Jason (blue) is going to model the remainder. This is divided up evenly by complexity, meaning the atrium has greater detail then the remainder of the building so requires more time to model.

Pulitzer Foundation For the Arts

Yerim and me decided to choose the "Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts" for this Task.
The building is designed by Tadao Ando". The images above are the plans and sections we researched from books. It is planed as one of the pioneer projects to revitalizen an abandoned urban district in central St. Louis as a new cultural quarter.
The building consists of two parallel boxes that are equal in width but not in length or height. Areflecting pool lies between the two rectangular volumes, creating a unifying element of tranquillity.
The geometric configuration is of the proportions of the spaces as well as the openings of the volumes produce a place where new possiblities may be stimulated and accommodated.

Santo Volto di Gesù - Work Load
For Jess and I to divide the workload for our building, we will both contribute in creating the topography and surrounding environment, and then split the creation of the building into the two parts shown in the image below. Fortunately for us, our building is already split into two almost even sections, the Parish Complex and the Chapel, which makes life easier for us.
Also, here is the link to the website of the architecture firm who designed the building, Sartogo Architetti Associati : http://www.sartogoarchitetti.it/

Santo Volto di Gesù - Plans & Elevations
After doing some serious digging around in the Library databases I managed to pull out a book with plans and elevations for our building. I also emailed the architecture firm last Tuesday asking for plans etc that may help, but am still waiting for a reply. I think we still need our building approved...? is that correct Mr Donn? Here are the plans and elevations plus various images I have unearthed:

Jacob and I have split up our building. We have decided to model the whole shell together, as there are some awkward level changes and connections no matter where we made the split - so we have decided to model the entire shell together, and then collaborate in ArchiCAD to fill in the details. We have split the plan according to the plans we were given by Holl Architects - and have let the final views we want determine who is modelling each chunk
The even numbers are the upper stories which poke up through the ground, giving the building it's distinctive fragmented, glowing crystalline exterior.

Novy Dvur Update
Still haven't heard back from John Pawson's office. However, Jen and I found a journal which has extensive photos and technical images; plans of all areas, key sections, detailed construction sections of some of the arches and main church space. Some are dimensioned and so all measurements should be able to be accurately derived. The journal is El Croquis, Issue 127, 2005, pages 86-113.
We've decided to use Revit to do the modelling as the building is mostly in levels. The barrell and quadripartite vaults will be done with masses.
The separation of the building is shown here:
I'm doing green, and Jen is doing red. The 0,0 coordinate is also shown.

Second journal, with short article more about religious influence and roots of building.
Another good plan of main church body and two sections!
Plan was helpful as tagged with numbers relating to photos so kind of 'walk through' the building.
Section showing roof and ceiling detail very helpful since roof is a very complex structure and we are yet to find a good roof plan to work from.

Kunstmuseum Stuttgart ...
At present simon and i have a great book that is 100% about the Kunstmuseum in Stuttgart. It was sourced from our school library:Library:
Victoria University of Wellington
Title:
Kunstmuseum Stuttgart : Hascher Jehle Architektur / Herausgeber, Kaye Geipel ; [Übersetzung ins Englische, Michael Robinson].
Publisher:
Stuttgart : Edition Axel Menges, c2006.We have used this book in gathering floor plans and one main longitudinal section through the building. The book also contains alot of internal and external perspectives; good for gathering information on textures and materials.

We will use the book images, plans and sections to create the main formwork of the building. From there we will detail the building with features like stairs; ramps other details. Unfortunately we have not yet decided on which views we would like to focus on for the renders, however we feel as we build up the details specific zones within the buildings will grab our attention. We are using a centralfile and local files; working bit by bit, floor by floor to create the building.p.s. have emailed the architects about locating more sections and plans; hoping for more information to model from.SASHLabels: approval, APPROVED, DELTA, DELTA_research, kunstmuseum stuttgart
Building parts
There is an underground part to our Padre Pio Church. The main upper part of the church is daylit but there are conference halls and crypts underground which are not daylit.
At this stage we think that the top part is complex enough for us to deal with, along with the landscaping.
The underground part we believe is not architecturally significant and not relevent for renders we believe.
Need approval on this aspect before we can start the model?

Matt and Koryn's change of building.
We have decided to change the building we are modelling to The Museum of Fantasy, Buchheim Collection by Behnisch & Partner. We have obtained plans, elevations and sections to assit us in our modelling.

Unsure which spaces we will model at the moment, have all plans and photos needed to start tho so are getting underway with the modelling

The Science Revolution Has Begun
Let the fun begin. Scott and I (Science Revolution) have chosed a building and it is the Nanjing Museum of Art and Architecture by Steven Holl. Underway

Today Ridwan and myself discussed which programme we would model our chosen building in.(Nanjing Museum of Art & Architecture) We came to the conclusion that as the structure has irregular shapes and off axis planes we will consider using either Revit or AutoCAD. Both have strengths however we are considering using Revit due to the option of using worksets.
We have also decided to split the building up by levels. I will model the lower structure, while Ridwan will model the upper structure.

Third and FINAL building change!!!!!!
Maria and I are finally satisfied with our building choice of:
- Oscar Dominguez Museum and Cultural Centre -
which is also known as: Tenerife Espacio De Las Artes (TEA).
The building is in Santa Cruz and was designed by Herzog and de Meuron.
We have all the plans, sections, elevations AND photographs we need.
The museum is part of a large complex all within the building designed by Herzog and de Meuron... we will be modelling the whole thing.
It has some interesting facade treatments which create unique penetrations of daylight - should get some great renders!
We have decided how we will be dividing it up.
We have a journal which contains the construction drawings, as well as images of a model that was made by the architects.

The Church of Padre Pio

Sally and I have found numerous photos and plans/elevations/sections from journal search in the library.
Also a book entirely devoted to the building.
Today we went through the drawings to try and understand how the building fits together.

We have been dicussing how we would divide the building up and have decided to start building the main elements together and then spliting up the remainder as we both become more confident with the model!
We have yet to decide on which programme to use...?

Kolumba Workload Split

In our
last post we were required to split the building in twain and chose a side each.
Here is the new image that highlights what side of the Kolumba Art Musuem we are each going to do. Daniel is going to do the Green Side and I am going to do the Blue Side (Sol).
The split is rougly 50/50 with the green inclusive of an exterior staircase and the blue inclusive of an interior stairwell. The split allows us to join the building sucessfully as the structure is far from symmetrical.
