The below renders are the result and presentation of the past few months of study into the New Museum of Contemporary Art by SANAA. The direction of this study stems from the research into the New Museum conducted by Erika and myself, from which I realised that none of the images we found conveyed the building in a completely daylit manner, with none of its hundreds of batten fluorescent lights turned on. This understanding led to the decision to create interpretations of the museums main daylit spaces under natural light.

The study was conducted through the use of ArchiCAD 12 to model NMoCA, with the help of AutoCAD Architecture and 3ds Max 9 to create some of the smaller details. This model has then been merged into 3ds Max 9 and 3ds Max Design 2009, in which the rendering programs Lightstudio (Radiance) and Mental Ray have been used to simulate a computer aided interpretation of the museum under purely daylit conditions.

This study has also given me the chance to compare my own capabilites and understandings of the two rendering programs, and so which I would be more likely to further my knowledge within in the future.

The following renders were the most successful of the many images created with these programs. There are also some Quicktime VR Panoramas (similar to Googles Street View Viewer) available here.

I hope you enjoy my work, and please feel free to click on each thumbnail to obtain a larger image of the render, and in some cases a more detailed description of what the render is. Render shots that were created in both rendering programs have been paired together to allow a quick and easy comparison, however you will find that the links from the images are for each seperate image. I hope you like my creations.
